According to the World Health Organization, one out of every eight individuals will face mental or neurological disorders during their lifetime, highlighting the global scale of this issue. According to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), more people are experiencing stress, anxiety, and depression. In 2021 alone, 22.8% of U.S. adults experienced mental illness, totaling 57.8 million people, and 5.5% experienced serious mental illness, totaling 14.1 million people. These statistics show that mental health challenges can impact anyone, no matter their age, gender, or income.

The rise in mental health problems, as evidenced by these statistics, shows why Mental Health Awareness Month is important. It’s a key time to talk about these issues, raise awareness about their prevalence, and support mental health for everyone.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Mental Health

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected mental health globally. Fear, loneliness, and financial insecurity have caused a rise in stress and anxiety levels among people.

Moreover, the disruption of mental health services during the pandemic has made it harder for people to access the help they need.
